Observability

For human intelligence, techniques such as cognitive training, self-reflection, and seeking feedback can improve self-awareness and decision-making.

The objectivity of human observation is crucial to make sound judgments. Observability in the context of artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the degree to which the internal states and processes of an intelligent system can be understood by an external observer. This is crucial for ensuring accountability, fairness, and trust in AI systems, as well as for understanding and improving human cognitive processes.

Key aspects of observability for both human and AI intelligence:

-Transparency: AI systems often operate as "black boxes," making it difficult to understand how decisions are made. Similarly, human decision-making can be influenced by unconscious biases or cognitive processes that are not readily apparent.

-Accountability: Lack of transparency in AI systems can obscure responsibility when errors occur. Establishing clear lines of accountability requires understanding how AI systems arrive at their conclusions.

-Bias Detection: AI systems can perpetuate biases present in training data, leading to unfair outcomes. Observability allows for the detection and mitigation of these biases.

-Ethical Considerations: The use of AI raises ethical concerns related to data privacy, consent, and potential misuse. Observability helps ensure that AI systems align with ethical standards and prioritize user interests.

-Agility: Intelligence includes the ability to adapt to new circumstances.

To deal with the complex new normal, on the human side, do deep observation; what you see depends very much on what you are familiar with and on the parading - there is no such thing as pure data. On the machine side, to enhance observability, AI developers can implement ethical design principles, document responsibilities, ensure human oversight, and engage stakeholders. For human intelligence, techniques such as cognitive training, self-reflection, and seeking feedback can improve self-awareness and decision-making.
