The Quickest Way to Lose Yourself

The world is different than it was before the pandemic. There seems to be much more stress in our lives for a variety of reasons. But the Akashic Masters remind us that when we allow our energy to be depleted because of others’ actions, it diminishes our ability to be our most authentic self. If you want to be an active participant in the creation of the New Earth, it’s important to bring the energy that’s been depleted by stress back to you.

What to do about stress  

There are hundreds of reasons every day to get upset. Heavy traffic, someone not keeping a commitment, disappointment over an expectation that didn’t come to fruition. While being upset can be a natural part of being a human being, allowing external circumstances to dictate our internal landscapes prevents us from being our true selves.

When your reaction is bigger than called for

Ivan worked his entire career as a manager for a retail chain. When he finally retired, his wife threatened divorce if he didn’t find something to do with his newly found free time. A conversation with one of his grandchildren about a class project sparked a memory of how he loved wood carving when he was a boy.

Within a few months, Ivan gathered all the materials and tools he needed and turned the shed behind the house into a studio. To his wife’s delight, he spent several hours a day hunched over pieces of maple and cherry carving everything from toy cars and animal figurines to Jack o’ lanterns and Christmas trees. 

He was happier than he’d ever been in his life. But everything changed when he decided to rent space at regional art festivals to sell his work. “People picked things up. They inspected them and asked me questions. But hardly anyone bought anything,” he told me. “It just made me so angry. I wanted to scream at them because I was so furious at their rejecting my work. I didn’t like feeling that way, so I just stopped going to the shed to make things. But I miss it.”

Ivan told me he hoped exploring his past lives could offer an answer to this problem that had stolen his joy.

Getting to the root of the anger

When we opened Ivan’s Akashic Records, we saw a young man standing on a street corner reciting the poems he’d written. Some people tossed small change into the hat he’d placed in front of him, but most just walked past not even acknowledging his existence.

Day after day, Ivan showed up on different corners in the town, performing his poetry that discussed subjects like love and the cruelty of the world in which he lived. And every day, he was rejected by the hundreds of people who hurried by without so much as a glance.

The final seen we were shown was Ivan getting arrested and thrown in jail for being a “nuisance” according the one shop keeper whose store Ivan stood in front of. With no money to bail himself out, he sat in a cold cell for sixty days, the length of the sentence given to him by the judge.

When we were finished, Ivan was quick to respond. “No wonder I got so upset,” he said. “But I understand why that guy was so angry.” We talked about what it means to be an artist of any kind in society and how hard it is to make a living doing what you love. “The messages about your worth being tied to your income are really anchored in me,” he admitted. 

We thanked the Akashic Masters for showing us why Ivan’s energy had leaked out and for releasing him from the pattern created during that life. Then we discussed ways Ivan could call his energy back from potential customers who chose not to buy something he’d made. “I’ve got work to do,” he said. “But I feel so much better.”

Recalling your energy opens other doors

A couple of months later, I received an email from Ivan. He told me that he was still working on being able to make the work more important than the sales, so he hadn’t been attending any markets. “But in the meantime, I’ve found ways to share my love for wood carving in a way that is well received,” he wrote. 

First, he began sharing his story of how he went from businessman to artist with groups like the Rotary and Chambers of Commerce in the area. He brought his carvings with him and sold them at the back of the room after his talk, which gave him great pleasure because the people who purchased them were engaged with his story.

He also approached his grandson’s school and began teaching a woodworking class after school. At first, the school didn’t pay him, but when they saw how many students took an interest, they began to pay him a small stipend. “It’s not about the money,” he said. “It’s about sharing the love of this with other people and these kids just soak it all up!”

Although Ivan hadn’t returned to the art markets, he found a way to share and sell his work by putting it in front of people whose energy matched his internal landscape.  “What I realized,” he shared, “is that I needed to find the right audience. By working with your meditation and calling back my energy, the ideas to do this just popped into my head”.
