Uber Is Making It Cheaper to Get to and From the Airport This Summer

Figuring out how I’ll get to the airport is high on my to-do list after deciding on flights, accommodations, and (importantly) where to eat. It comes down to some simple math: the average cost of an Uber to the airport plus an Uber back home, versus the per-day cost of parking in the airport garage. The former wins out for any trip longer than a couple of days — and that calculation will ring even more true for more people with the newly expanded Uber Share at Airports.

Riders can select the shared option for a lower upfront price to the airport, whether they’re matched with a co-rider or not. If another rider does join, the cost can be lowered as much as 20 percent cheaper than the UberX fare. Shared airport rides are limited to two people with guaranteed space for one carry-on size bag.

Uber ran a test of the offering at 10 major airports — including in Newark, Miami, and Amsterdam — in November 2024. More than 40 new locations are being added this summer. That includes airports in the United States in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville, and Philadelphia, as well as internationally in hubs like Lisbon, Paris, Stockholm, and Zurich.

It’s just one of Uber’s summer updates targeted to the travel set. The app will also allow users to reserve a ride for someone else (think that friend who is always late to their flight) and is expanding the Reserve Airport Pickup to 70 additional locations with a focus on smaller airports in suburban towns. Travelers with a Delta SkyMiles Amex Card can get $9.99 per month back when using it to pay for Uber One through June 2026. And the company’s rental car arm, Uber Rent, is expanding to 15 more cities to reach 24 cities across the US (and those rentals come straight to your location).

For those of us who enjoy the idea of room service but don’t actually like the lackluster room service food, Uber Eats is upping its hotel delivery preferences to allow people to select whether they prefer the dropoff in the lobby, left at the front desk, or direct to the door if the hotel allows.
