The Starling Project

Just finished listening to "The Starling Project" by Jeffery Deaver for Audible, released by Brilliance Audio.
Now I almost didn't post a review of "The Starling Project," because IF my information on this audio drama is correct - and it may NOT be, it was created and produced by AudioComics for Audible. The last time I posted a review for Audible, and it was a positive review of their CD release of "Gamadin- Book 1: Word of Honor" - I got a rather nasty email from someone on their staff at the time because I had mentioned that it was the last audio drama that Mom had listened to before she passed away and that she had enjoyed it, as I had. Tom Kirkbride, the author, did send me an nice email expressing his condolences at the time and that he was happy that Mom and I enjoyed the audio adaptation of the first book in his Gamadin series. [I still have all my AudioComics CDs.] AudioComics did apologize for that hateful email when they learned of its contents, but oddly stated that I shouldn't be posting reviews positive or negative because I wasn't being paid to do so. How that was relevant, I'll never know. Hint: That really wasn't an apology and I told them that I would continue posting reviews and have been doing so for over a decade.
So if the team at AudioComics was involved in the production of "The Starling Project," I just might be opening myself up for another nasty email or two. I hope not.
"The Starling Project" popped up as a suggestion on my Amazon page back in 2015, and the description of this audio drama peaked my interest, even though I never read any of Jeffery Deaver's books, so I got it and it's been sitting in my stacks of yet-to-be-listened to audio drama CDs. I also have similar stacks of yet-to-be watched movies and yet-to-be read books.
In "The Starling Project," mild mannered professor and the leader brilliant leader of the "Volunteers," Harry Middleton tries to uncover the secret of "The Starling Project." The story opens with a raid on international arms dealer's house to retrieve some hard drives. The Volunteers get the drives, but lose one of their members in the process. Yet nothing is quite what it seems. Harry's intelligence-driven approach is challenged by the act-first tactics of his newest recruit, DC police detective Kyle Nelson. We are taken through a roller coaster series of twists and turns before Deaver wraps up the story and deposits us at the end, waiting for the next installment.
Middleton and his volunteers appear in two round-robins that Deaver penned with a group of 15 other thriller writers, and there were two more audio dramas released by Brilliance Audio.
"The Starling Project" was great audio thriller and is highly recommended.
Five Stars.
