Food as a weapon
My last blog discussed truth as a weapon and how good can use it to fight the forces of evil.
Now, I would like to discuss how the forces of good can use food.
I know it’s hard to imagine, but 100 years ago, very few grocery stores existed. Most of the food came from local farmers or even someone’s back yard. Almost everyone in America took part in food production even if it was on a small scale.
I think it is time we embrace that heritage again. If you produce your own food or have access to a local supply chain, then it will be harder for the forces of evil to control you.
Now many of you may not have acres of land or herds of chickens from which to feed yourself, and that’s ok. You can still achieve a good portion of food independence with small spaces if you take the right steps and form the right relationships.
There are plenty of hardy crops that grow in small spaces. Potatoes, tomatoes, and sunflowers are some of them. I know sunflowers may not seem like a hardy crop-but consider this: chickens eat sunflower seeds. In a crisis, neighbors with backyard chickens will need to feed those chickens. Imagine if you came along with your sunflower seeds and solved their problem. Instantly you have a tool with which to barter for eggs or even meat. Once you have started growing what you can, form relationships with people who produce what you can’t. I already mentioned backyard chicken people. Find those who raise cattle or offer a subscription beef, chicken or pork boxes.
Go to farmer’s markets or co-ops and spend time with the food producers there. These people are often thrilled to make direct contact with buyers rather than having to get a middleman like Walmart to sell the products of their labor.
Lastly, I recommend looking into a stash of freeze dried food. These supplies can work wonders in emergency situations. While there are many reputable companies that sell these things, I recommend checking into Heaven’s Harvest and PatriotSupply.com. Their products may seem expensive at first glance, but if you subscribe to their email lists, then they will keep you abreast of any important sales.
These are only a few examples; what other avenues for food security can you find? And how can you prevent it from being used as a weapon against you by the forces of evil?
