Writing First Chapters

It was a dark and stormy night.
Hooking a reader from chapter one is the first hurdle every writer, whether writing their first novel or their fiftieth must face. And though there isn’t one way to write a story, there are pitfalls to avoid. Some common first chapter pitfalls are the waking up scene, the transit scene, the rocking chair scene, the crisis scene, and the dream sequence.
