Book Review: Red Sky Mourning by Jack Carr

Published in 2024. Thriller. James Reece is relaxing at home with his soon-to-be bride, Katie in Montana, until a group of assassins show up, intending to kill them. James survives but Katie is seriously injured and would have died, had not James performed lifesaving measures to save her life. Now, more than ever, he is determined to get those men and find out who is behind it. Had he been left alone, he probably wouldn’t be so determined to find out what they were up to, but once he does, there’s no stopping him. The reason for the assassination attempt was to eliminate the threat posed by an AI computer program called Alice. For some reason, she took to James Reece, and the Chinese thought by eliminating him, they would reduce Alice’s impact. It may have worked but once James was riled up, he brought Alice online with him.

This book was intense. The author is extremely knowledgeable about weapons and fighting as a former Navy SEAL. In addition, he provides valuable insights into the threat from China that no one seems to take seriously. His first book, The Terminal List, has been made into a TV series available on Prime. I’ve seen the first one, and it was just as intense as this book.
