Scientific Progress.

I find looking back at the progress of science extremely interesting. In my own lifetime, the size of the Universe has changed from being viewed as big to enormous. Not only that, but the concept of the Universe was at one time believed to be a steady state. Then the new idea of the big bang gained popularity. The evidence is quite compelling as the light from most stars indicate that stars are moving away at an ever increasing rate from each other. That means the whole Universe is expanding.

There is a major phenomenon first thought of in 1933 and later in 1998 named as dark energy.
The visible matter of the Universe comprises less than 5 percent. The rest is made up of dark matter and dark energy. Dark matter is theorised as what is necessary to keep galaxies and stars in place relative to each other. Dark energy is what causes the expansion of the Universe.

There are some physical phenomena that at the moment science has no explanation for but over time knowledge will come to light. Answers and facts such as determining the age of the Universe and the Earth. The fact that new information will change science and encompassing views on a particular topic is not a bad thing, as having an open mind is key to progress.

Even one day science might discover how matter and energy can come into existence. Until that time, I think the value of science in everyday life should not be forgotten. Science can be extremely valuable in many ways and the progress can be a feat of physical and mental accomplishment.
