Eochaidh Feidhlioch MacFionn (192 BC - 130 BC), the 93rd High King Of Ireland, gifted Connachta to his daughter Maeve. She ruled the ancient Irish province with her husband Ailill mac Máta whom she married afterward.

She was the main character of the famous Irish tale Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley). The tale is one of many told in the epic Ulster Cycle saga that takes place in Ulster and Leinster during her era.
