What has been the most challenging part of becoming an Authoress?

Marketing... Marketing... Marketing!!!

Being a self-published authoress is difficult. Did you catch that?

I said, being a self-published authoress is D-I-F-F-I-C-U-L-T!

Sometimes, I feel like I'm trying to jump on a ride that is in a perpetual spin. I can see that there are people on the journey enjoying themselves, so I know it’s possible to thrive on this roller coaster. But, since I didn’t see them get on, I don’t quite know how they did it.

I’m in multiple self-published author groups and they are helpful. These groups are especially beneficial when it comes to getting books to the point where they can be sold, but after that…what then? What needs to be done to get the story to the masses?

Publicist, I have a profound respect for the work that you do.

However, in this as well as many other spaces that cater to intellectual property, it’s hard to know who you can trust. The fear of losing something you’ve poured your heart and soul into because you put faith in the wrong person is much worse than the efforts needed to promote yourself. Besides, who’s better at telling people about your work than YOU?! Also, if I’m honest, I’m not sure I’m capable of handing over the reins of these literary works to someone else…not just yet.

Hey, hey, hey, we listen, and we don’t judge!

Luckily, I have a family member who has found some success as a self-published author, and he’s been very forthcoming with sharing promotion tactics. Although our genres are different, a good portion of the processes are the same. Happy to say that I’ve already invested in some of his suggestions (Thanks cuz).

At this point, I rely heavily on word-of-mouth promotion, Facebook posts and direct sales. Soon there will be book signings, appearances at fairs, art shows and I’m even in the process of trying to get the chronicles into a local bookstore (pray for me!).

While trying to find ways to market ‘The Bet’ I’m writing and promoting ‘The Choice’. Currently in Chapter 10 and it’s good, not to toot my own horn but… (Toot Toot).

Being a self-published authoress, working and trying to find different venues and methods to promote your current book while still making time to create new content is a wild journey to be on.

But here we are! And there aren’t many other places I’d rather be.

With love and appreciation,

Janai
