A body blow was dealt recently to unreconstructed males in the High Court by Mr Justice Francis. He struck out a claim for a £26,000 a year allowance to eat out in a City Trader’s divorce settlement. Simon Entwistle claimed he was so useless in the kitchen that he could not even cook an omelette. As a consequence, he was forced to eat out in restaurants.
The judge had little truck for his line of argument, by retorting “well, my answer to that is, learn. It is not difficult”.
Easy for him to say, perhaps, but in my experience, limited I hasten to add, egg cookery is more than a little tricky. To add to Entwistle’s woes, he was ordered to pay £75 000 of his ex wife’s cost which is not usual in divorce finance cases and only ordered if the person has not being open honest and worked with the process.
The moral of the story is that if you are a culinary duffer, stay married! Alternatively, if by any chance Entwistle reads this, here is something that might be useful.
