My latest project: Apocalypsis. 25,000 words and counting!

I’ve talked about this in various posts on this blog and I’ve tweeted about it, but I figured for those of you who want to know exactly what’s going on, I’d post something a little more detailed, plus give you an update.

This summer I have an exciting project I’m working on, a 3-book YA post-apocalyptic series titled Apocalypsis.  The setting is Central and South Florida and features main characters Bryn Mathis and Peter Bagby, two teens who find each other and stick together as they try to find a place they can call home.  All the adults and young children in the world have died, leaving teens alone to fend for themselves over the limited resources left.

This series is darker than War of the Fae, but still with plenty of laughs.  These characters don’t cuss nearly as much as Jayne Sparks does, but they’re not totally vanilla either.  It’s suitable for older teens and adults only, mostly due to the darker nature of the subject matter.

I’ve got 25,000 words done, and I suspect there’s another 75,000 or so to go before this first book will be finished.  It will be published no later than June 30, 2012 and available on Amazon only for now.  I will push to get it in paperback soon thereafter.  Those of you familiar with my work know that so far, I’ve never missed a publication date; in fact, I’m usually a day or two ahead of schedule.  I’ll work like heck to make sure that happens this time too.

I have a cover design contest going on right now.  Anyone can enter and there are many ways to participate.  They’re all detailed HERE.  If you participate, you get a sneak-peek at Chapter 1.  I’ll email it right to your inbox!  But if you’re interested, you’d better get going.  I’m very close to picking the final design.

So that’s it for now.  I’ll be posting regularly about Apocalypsis as I progress.  I’m in Paris for 3 full days of uninterrupted writing, so I plan on getting at least half the book done in that time.  Wish me luck!  :)
