The Good and the Bad of It

The good: yesterday I wrote a little over 1560 words on Sera’s second book, finishing out a chapter and pushing the word count over 11k. I’m excited about that because once a book is over 10k, the momentum kicks into high gear and the words flow swiftly. I also wrote another scene to add to the dark academia.

The bad: I found out last night that Meta pirated three of my books and used them to train their AI. I’m digusted, and angry. Those are my words, those are my books, that’s my hard work and dedication, my creativity, a piece of who I am. A billionaire stole my work to train his AI. I know other authors who had over 40 of their books pirated. Stealing creative work is NOT okay. It has NEVER been okay. You’re stealing the hard work and livelihood of a real person, and the majority of us are not rich, we are still working full time jobs. This is our creative outlet, a big piece of our soul’s love and joy. A good portion of us are self-published and the money for editing, covers, and promotion comes from our own pockets.

So I’m caught between being excited for the progress of my writing, and being angry that my published works have been pirated and used to train AI. A mixed bag of emotions.

I’m going to have some tea now.
