 Monica McCarty once wrote in her blog about finding the perfect heroine for Lachlan.

This is what she wrote:

"I must admit that when I first conceived the Highland Guard series, his was the story I was most looking forward to writing. I knew it would take a special heroine to break through his very hard shell, and when I read about the Scottish heroine Bella MacDuff, I knew I'd found her. Bella's story is pretty amazing.
