I recently posted on Facebook a series of pictures of a steam fair complete with carousel - and the reason I did this was because it seemed to me that this delightfully archaic event (in England) was a celebration of the innocent archetype. Little kids were having fun, and Mums and Dads were enjoying being kids again, as the fact of their kids having fun.
At bottom all the major events we like to celebrate, from soccer matches to Queen’s jubilees, are there to commemorate one of the six archetypal stages. Soccer matches enshrine belonging and community - and therefore the Orphan archetype; The Queen’s jubilee honored the Magician who has quietly helped England stay sane; weddings honor the courage and commitment of the Warrior-Lover; any good library respects the inquiring mind, and therefore the Pilgrim in us all.
These six Archetypes are at the basis of how we make sense of our world.
