When Groundhogs Speak

Daylight breaks

And he awakens

Groggy, stiff andunaware.

Rain or shine

Drought or drizzle,

Bang or fizzle,

Doesn’t care.

Humans watching,

Pert and pensive.

If he knew he’d lose allsenses,

Hide behind the tallestfences,

Any respite from theirstare.

Will he chance to see hisshadow?

Will he forecast winter’sfate?

Can we trust in hisprediction?

We will simply have towait.
