An introduction
I'm fairly new at promoting my books because I've spent most of my energy writing them. But a blog is kind of a fun way that you can get to know more about me and I can find out more about you, my readers or my prospective readers. Definitely a win-win situation!
I grew up in Hollywood, California and yeah...it was not your average American town. My Grandmother would take me for walks along Hollywood Blvd, the stars under our feet, and she'd discuss politics with the hermits, (men with lumberjack clothing and long beards), who lived in the Hollywood hills. My dad, a Los Angeles Times pressman, would take me to Malibu beach to explore tidal pools or to mountain streams to fish for trout. My big brother took me on hikes through Griffith park, teaching me to respect nature and giving me confidence in my own abilities.
But it was my mother who taught me to love books and fantasy. From the original Oz books to Through the Looking Glass to Peter Pan, we'd sit together and leave our mundane lives behind, becoming happily lost in Neverland or the Emerald City. After school I'd run home and we'd watch Dark Shadows on TV, forever addicting me to stories of mysterious and handsome vampires.
She died when I was 14, but she's still with me through every chapter I've written, encouraging my better efforts with a grin and my literary blunders with a sarcastic jibe.
So I've made my mom, Barbara, a charter member of Rogues, Inc. I'm sure Garrett and Jackie would approve.
Who's your mentor?
