Dar B That is fantastic! Way to go Diana!

message 2: by Beth (new)

Beth As a nurse I can easily understand their choise. I have always enjoyed your books and the nursing that Claire performs. I just wish the next book was out

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim McGee Claire is the ultimate nurse! Congratulations-

message 4: by Briana (new)

Briana That's fabulous, Diana. It is one of my favorite books. Your characters are so well-written and well-rounded. Not to mention, it is one heck of a story.

message 5: by Dick (new)

Dick Whittington You have to be thrilled. Congratulations. It is one of my favorites as well. Have read all the books in the Outlander series and recommended to my friends and fellow readers. When will the next installment be available? Will stand in line to buy it. Thanks for all the good reading.

Sue As a nurse and Outlander fan, I totally agree with their assessment! I recently thought of one of Claire's treatments (later in the series) when I learned that maggots are making a comeback as a medical treatment due to the advent of antibiotic resistant bacteria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maggot_t...

message 7: by Barrett (new)

Barrett As as retired Nurse,it was a 'must read'--numerous times. (Also inspired me to start my own writing career)

Gladys Quintal Congrats Diana!!! I loved Claire as a nurse and was especially fascinated with the way she coped with going back in time. You are an inspiration to us all and I for one am so glad I found your books :)

message 9: by Diana (new)

Diana Gabaldon Thanks very much, guys! I'm working on the next book in the main series--WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART'S BLOOD. Hoping to finish it within the next 6-8 or so months; it will (God willing and the creek don't rise ) be out sometime in 2013.

Gladys Quintal God willing and the creek don't rise?? Haven't heard that saying before :) Good luck Diana - not that you need it, of course! I have only just started writing books (totally different genre to yours, mine have vampires!)but if I could write just a smidgen as well as you do, I would be happy :)

message 11: by Jo-Ann (new)

Jo-Ann Newman This is so cool! As a person who is interested in science and the "healing arts," I have always found Claire's adaptation of modern medical knowledge to be fascinating. She is one of my my favorite female characters on a very short list. Keep up the good work Diana. I am really looking forward to your next Outlander novel.

message 12: by Diana (new)

Diana Gabaldon Gladys--

"God willing and the creek don't rise" is a _real_ old expression--wouldn't expect you to have heard it.

Best of luck with your book!

Gladys Quintal Oh wow, thanks! Now that has to be good luck - having your favourite author wishing you luck :) I just released my third book, so far so good I think....

I am not exactly a spring chicken (I am 46!) but I am a New Zealander living in Australia - so some of those sayings I haven't heard before. Always good to learn something new though!

message 15: by Dar B (new)

Dar B I am unsure where and how that expression was derived but I am 45 and have known it all of my life. It may be an American saying.

Gladys, how wonderful that must feel! I cannot imagine it but I wish you good luck, as well. I keep writing a bunch of random stuff but cannot seem to motivate myself to put it all together. I am not sure what it is I want to write about, yet.

Gladys Quintal TBH Darla, I am still not believing that DIANA is actually interacting with us!!!! It is amazing - I am so in awe of her :)

Well, it took me until my early 40's to actually start writing proplerly! I always said I was going to write a book, but never actually sat down and did it. It was floating around in my head forever - then once I started, I couldn't seem to stop! I have always loved to write and share my stories and I guess it is never too late :)

Dar B DIANA Herself is amazingly sweet and accommodating of her fans! I went to see her in Decatur GA a couple years ago. She spoke about her books and visiting Scotland, I think longer than she had anticipated due to the Q&A at the end. Then, to top it off, she signed our books, up to four or five a piece, and that line was forever long! She took time to speak to everybody whose book she signed- and of course I blathered like an idiot and interupted her time with the next person because I just had to show her my Claire's ring. She is an amazing person and a fantastic writer, to boot!

I had sort of half-way tried to write since high school but when I had writing intensive college courses a few years ago, my professors kept commenting on my natural ability to write well. Of course, that was academic papers on different human service, counseling, and community health issues. My imagination is lacking, though. I have written much more, since then, than I had ever written before but, I lack focus. I have a couple children's stories, an idea for a biographical fiction, some ideas for a western series, and several poems.

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone -such a great book! My husband and I are off to Scotland in 2 weeks to visit his family. We're doing a bed and breakfast tour of the highlands - a first for both of us. Definitely a stop at Culloden, Inverness, and Fort William. Gracious, the Scottish tourism board must worship the ground Diana walks on!

And hey - my Mother used to always say "God willing, and the creeks don't rise"! Love it!

Dear Darla--

Writing's like anything else difficult-but-rewarding; the more you do it, the better you get at it. Best of luck with your projects! Don't give up.

Haha! Have fun in Scotland--I've never met _anyone_ who didn't love the place, so I'm sure you will.

Dar B Diana, thank you so very, very much for the encouragement! I appreciate that more than you can imagine. I actually squealed with delight, when I read your message specifically addressed to me! Your thoughtfulness of your fans is why we love and admire you so much. Thanks again!

Gladys, WOW, now She wrote to me! How exciting! I have requested that my library obtain your book, so we'll see if they get it any time soon. Not my normal genre of book but I see that your reviews are excellent and piqued my interest.

Darla--

It kind of doesn't matter what your usual genre _is_...it'll be in there, somewhere. Hope you enjoy them!

message 24: by Sue (new)

Sue I love that about your writing Diana, there is mystery, fantasy, romance, comedy, tragedy, history all wrapped into one series. If I were on a desert island I would be content with all your books to read over and over. And a direct line to the new ones!

message 25: by Diana (new)

Diana Gabaldon Thanks, Sue!
