Episode #197

Well, finally, my latest episode of Heart and Hustle, and the first one for 2025… Got so many great interviews coming up for you this year… and excited to be in my 6th year of presenting these, talking to inspiring folk who are creating change in the world and designing their lives with compassion, artistry, and integrity!

Listen together. Learn together. Grow together.

Talking today with Susan Clark, she works to build supportive communities and help with healthcare, housing, and co-creating in the systems! Very inspiring work, and much needed too.

More about Susan:

Susan Clark started her career in consumer marketing, working on increasing usage of everyday products like Crest toothpaste and Sure deodorant. In successive marketing jobs, she saw the benefits of starting with qualitative insights about the wide range of people’s motivations before applying quantitative analysis. When invited to apply her skills in behavioral insights to social marketing campaigns – e.g., to reduce smoking and transmission of HIV – she further honed her appreciation for the many layers that supported people’s attitudes and internal stories.

To bring this way of deep listening and culture change to civic and community life, Susan founded Common Knowledge. This nonpartisan organization work with cities and counties, community foundations and multi sector collaboratives to help identify common ground and local capacity to work on some of the most complicated issues facing our communities, such as: healthcare, housing and homelessness, environment and fiscal solvency. In this work, Susan developed a passion for understanding and engaging with the skills and gifts of the less invisible “care holders” in a community that are just as important as the stakeholders and shareholders. She believes that communities are living organisms that can choose to co-create more nourishing “stories of us.”
