Watching the early days of the Trump administration, another key question is what does Trump want. Given his narcissistic personality, I would have to guess it is simply power. He wants to be at the center of the universe. There are two factors that I consider to be quite alarming. One is that a large quantity of bots during the election campaign came from Russia. Those bots likely had a huge impact on the conversation. The second factor is that, like many narcissists, Trump loves praise. And we know that Putin has been a master of handing it out to Trump. So it seems quite possible to me that Putin is now at the top of the chain of power. Does this mean democracy is at an end? The Republican party seems more than ready to tear down our system, and if Congress cannot get its act together, it seems Putin has won.
Perhaps our last chance is the midterms, which could give control of Congress back to the Democrats. They need to figure out how to neutralize the bots.
