New Pier out of the question - or maybe not?

 

Poor old Southport Pier is, as we know, somewhat knackered.
It’s not the first time either in its history that it’s needed a good dose of TLC to survive. I hear that Sefton taxpayers may be asked to pay the complete repair cost of an alleged £13 Million.

One thought came to mind. 

Would it be a feasible option to rebuilda newer better pier that was longer and more resilient to the passage of time and adverse weather?
