Marvel Rivals is a third-person hero shooter that has exploded in popularity. So popular in fact, that the game had 10 million players at launch. What’s caught the attention of gamers is the thrilling gameplay and the full roster of Marvel heroes and villains to choose from — with more being added in the future. If you’ve thought about playing the game but don’t know where to start, here’s a guide on the best characters to try out for beginners.

Marvel Rivals Characters

As part of the game’s lore, both heroes and villains are trying to protect their world from the threat of Doctor Doom and his future self from taking over. Right at the start, your Marvel Rivals account will have access to 33 characters, who are divided into three roles: Strategist, Vanguard, and Duelist.

Strategists are heroes who provide support for the team, such as heals or crowd control. Meanwhile, Duelists are the heroes who are front and center in battle — the heavy damage dealers. Finally, Vanguards are the tanks of the game, providing defense for the team and paving the way to the objective.
