This is a Best Book of 2024 Tuesday

Some of you had asked (thank you, Tammy) for a best book of the year post for GBT. For those of you who can pick one (or your top five if that’s easier), this is your post. Open a bottle of champagne or Diet Coke and toast the book that made you happiest this year.

It’s the end of a great reading year (every year is a great year to read), so what was the best you ever had this year?

Also, Happy New Year! Nothing but interesting times ahead.

Ms Ok, I read a lot this year, partly because there were some very good books available, and partly for respite from the noise of and problems of the world (am I on a spectrum... maybe?)
I've worked on the assumption that the Rocky Start novels are already on the list.
These are some of the highlights. I cheated as some are a body of work/ series, yet it's the characters which kept me company throughout the year.

So, in no particular order:

Andrew Taylor's Lovett and Marwood series (or a very clever woman trying to be an architect in Restoration London and helped by a Courtier on the make solving murders)

Julie McElwain's Kendra Donovan series (or a top of the class FBI agent time travels to Regency/ Post Napoleonic War England and solves murders)

Hannah Dolby's Volet Hamiliton series (or a Victorian Suffragist trying to deal with everyday sexism in Hastings whilst solving mysteries)

Laura Wood- Under Your Spell (her first grown up novel and it is an homage your work Ms Crusie)

Leesa Cross Smith- This close to okay (or how to re invent yourself to get through a rough patch and the price you pay)

Anyone else read these books or know these authors?
