My New Years Resolutions for My 50th Year
It’s that time of year again for New Year’s Resolutions, and this year I’ll be turning 50. I usually feel like I need to reset and refocus after the holidays go by in a blur of food and alcohol-soaked social activity, so I enjoy setting goals for the new year.
This year feel especially important since 50 is a big milestone. I’m doing a blog post about it so I can hold myself accountable and go back and refer to it if I lose my way and forget. That tends to happen at this age, you know. (haha)
1 Cut Down on Processed FoodsOverall, I don’t eat a lot of processed foods. I cook a lot and grow my own lettuce and herbs. But I do have one processed food vice, and it’s Entenmann’s Little Bites. I have their Party Cake muffins for breakfast almost every morning.
They are just so convenient, and tasty. I bring a box of them when I travel for food emergencies, so I don’t get hangry. And while they advertise “no high fructose corn syrup,” they have a long list of ingredients full of artificial dyes and preservatives. Not the best way to start each day.
So yesterday I pulled out my old Strawberry Mini Muffin recipe from several years ago, dusted off my mini muffin pan, and made my own mini muffins. They turned out pretty good! Now I just have to stick with it.
2 Step Up the FitnessLast year I made a goal to stick to doing yoga and Pilates every week. Thanks to ClassPass, I’ve stuck to that goal for the entire year. My body feels better, and I’m ready to step it up this year and go more often.
I’ve joined gyms before and always gotten bored. I love ClassPass so much because I can take all kinds of classes all over the place.
Right now, they are offering a pretty crazy good deal to join- 53 free credits and a whole month to use them! You just have to use a friend link:

I totally recommend trying it, and it’s really easy to cancel if you don’t end up wanting to join.
3 Less Social MediaThis is the opposite of previous years where my goal was to post more on social media. I’ve been taking a step back lately and quite enjoying not feeling like I need to post and share and go like all the comments constantly.
I do get paid a little bit for my social media stuff, but it’s nowhere near what the blog brings in. So, I’ve decided to concentrate on what actually works, and that’s blogging. Because that $5 Meta keeps sending me every month for my “creator fund” isn’t really helping.
4 Balance Family Time and Me TimeAt first it was all family time, all the time. Then as my son got older and went to school, I started carving out more me time. I finally feel like I’m at a good place where I can balance them both.
5 Grow the BlogsSince I’ve been focusing on blogging the past year, two of them have really grown. I’m working on growing three others as well. And considering adding another!
It’s been really interesting creating newer blogs because I’m always learning new things. And I’m able to start these blogs the right way, instead of what I’m doing with my older blogs, which is try and go back and optimize all the older posts.
Happy New Year! That seems like a good place to stop for now. I think it will be a good year if I can keep up with all that. I wish I had some of my previous year’s resolution lists to compare, but I do recall my list used to always have “stop biting nails” and “grow my hair long” on it each year. At least I’ve managed to successfully do both those things, although I occasionally slip up on the nails.
If you have some new year resolutions, share them in the comments! What is your big goal this year?
