Oh man, I feel so badly for those teachers. People's priorities are so screwed up, when the new football stadium is a higher priority than paying teachers and police officers.

An Open House at the end of the year is such a good idea! I think most of the schools around here only do it at the beginning. My school ends on a Thursday and Friday is a celebration day for the whole school. My class attends early for a portfolio pick-up, but we also demonstrate what the children did during our study (project approach). I like ending the year that way. Glad you got out when you did. Although, the circumstances were fairly sucky, I believe that things happen for a reason, my friend. This sounds like one of those times.
My brother, a dean, lost his administrative job because of budget cut backs. However, he regained it when the school realized they were letting admin go in ways that weren't illegal, but unethical. So, he has a job for next year, but who knows what the future holds.

Even things like air conditioning come down to money-- and let me tell you, it was HOT in those classrooms!
Open houses are so good for many things, tying up the year, handing back to the parents all those items the kids have left at school all year! lol A good way to end things.but those teachers, I am so sorry for all. Sometimes it seems that teachers and kids are the last priorities *shakes head*
And I have a hint about those wonderful artistic creations the kids make (and wish I had this when my daughter was younger). You can't save all the original work. but you can take pictures of them, print them up in smaller sizes and/or save them to a disc for later. That doesn't take much time and you can have them for the future. Let the kids make a mosaic out of the pics of their artiwork. So many things to do.

Awesome tip-- thanks Melanie!
And the kids who manage to graduate despite overworked and underpaid teachers will be even more poorly prepared to enter college. Where the professors are also overworked and underpaid. Way to go, California.
So proud of you. What ever your path in life takes you ...you will always do it with courage, your chin up and do it well!
Grammy-- Thank you sweetheart-- that means a lot from you:-)Kim-- God... the cycle of it is just heinous, isn't it?
