Jews in Russia have autonomy with the official Yiddish Jewish language.
It is called the Jewish Autonomous Oblast (JAO) and is located in the Far East of Russia on the border with China.
JAO was created by Stalin between 1928 and 1934 with the capital Birobijan. The aim was to enforce the border with China, which was often penetrated by the Chinese.
JAO and Israel are the only two Jewish jurisdictions in the world.
