Review of Chuck Dixon and Joe Bennet’snew comic and hero, The Horseman.

I just finished reading the NewHorseman graphic novel By Dixon and Bennet. I have to say I really liked it alot. There was really no bad to this one. If I have anything negative to say,it’s that his background felt a little rushed. There was no build up as towhere he got the inspiration to do this (I know that accident that cost hissister the use of her legs, but it was glossed over.) or how he got hisequipment, and maybe a little more about him. What made him join the army inthe first place? Etc. That’s the only bad I have to say, and it’s not so bad.

Now on to the good. This thing hadsome spectacular art by Joe Bennet. I think he may have drawn some Spider-Man before,at least that’s where I think I recognize his art from. But he’s one hell of anartist. The multiple splash pages leapt off of the book while Chuck’s dialoguewas exciting and intriguing. You can consider this the first arc of the character;at least I hope you can. It ended fairly definitively, though it left theopening for another volume. It was extremely good and I read it in one sitting.

These guys are at the top of theirgame with this character. It was that good. What I loved about this, besides theconstant action and thrills, was that there was no ridiculous agenda in it.That’s what kills modern day comics. This was just great storytelling. Even Thecoloring was fantastic  and moody! Thiswas everything it was sold to be; a great new comic that had a solid story andwas filled with action. This book was spectacular! I hope there’s a number #2on the horizon, because I’m really looking forward to it!
