In view of the election

Psalm 31

In view of the election, as well as international violence and personal struggles, it’s a rare person who isn’t dealing with anxiety right now. I thought Psalm 31 would be a helpful meditation.

Let me never be put to shame. (v. 1) What is shame? Is our anxiety related to our fear of it?Be my rock of refuge. (v. 2) What is a rock? What is a refuge? How can they come together in the character of God?You saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul. (v. 7) Do you really believe that God knows and cares about what you are going through and how you feel? If so, what makes you think so?My times are in your hands. (v. 15) What does that mean? How does it help? How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you. (v. 19a) What is the image, of goodness in storage? How does this help?…Which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you. (v. 19b) What is the point of mentioning “in the sight of men?”In the shelter of your presence you hide them. (v. 20) How is God’s presence a shelter? How is it a hiding place? He showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city. (v. 21) When and where exactly did the psalmist get to see God’s wonderful love? How does one watch for God’s wonderful love?
