There is a name for God in the Bible that is used somesurprising times. It is apparently used in the heavenly places before Godrevealed His name Yahweh to Moses. The name is the Most High God.
Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, said to Mary, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call himJesus. He will be great and will be called the Son ofthe Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; hiskingdom will never end” (Luke 1:31-33).
John the Baptist was called “a prophet of theMost High” (Luke 1:76).
In Mark 5, the demon-possessed man calledJesus the Son of the Most High God. “When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ranand fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted atthe top of his voice, ‘What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most HighGod? In God’s name don’t torture me!’” (Mark 5:6-7). The Gerasenes demanded toknow who He was. Gabriel knew He was the Son of the Highest.
My favorite is in Psalm 91:1: “Whoever dwellsin the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadowof the Almighty.”
