BEIJING (Reuters) – China renewed warnings to the European Union that if the bloc held separate talks with electric vehicle companies while negotiating with China, it would “shake mutual trust” and hinder overall talks, China’s commerce ministry said in Monday.
The ministry issued a similar warning earlier this month, but the reiteration comes days after China and the EU agreed to hold further technical talks on possible alternatives to Chinese electric vehicle (EV) tariffs.
Both sides had made it clear that price commitments would continue to be the solution to the dispute, and the ministry said the next phase of consultations had begun.
Last Friday, Beijing said it “welcomes the EU team to come to China as soon as possible.”
