A gas explosion caused the collapse of a building in Santander and the search for three missing | Spain

A gas explosion this morning caused the collapse of a building in La Albericia street, c Santanderand a search is underway for three people who may be on the property.

According to EFE, sources from the government of Cantabria and the city council of Santander informed EFE that the incident took place at around four o’clock this morning at street La Albericia number 24 in the capital of Cantabria and led to the evacuation of all buildings near those affected by the explosion.

Eight residents of the damaged property and neighboring buildings had to be transferred to the city’s Valdesilla Hospital for various reasons.

In the space previously occupied by the building, Santander firefighters are still trying to put out the fire that caused the explosion, which still had significant flames coming out of it after 7:30am.

The gas supply to the entire area has been cut off and two intensive care units and an ambulance have been mobilized, as well as the fire department of Santander, 112 Cantabria.

A field hospital was also set up on the street near the fallen building. At the event are the regional president María José Sáenz de Buruaga, the mayor of Santander Gemma Igual, the government delegate in the region Eugenia Gómez de Diego and the councilor in charge of the regional emergency services, Isabel Urrutia.
