“No country without a peasant” and “Peasant, my passion, but what a disappointment,” can we read on banners displayed by the demonstrators who hung these exit signs at the prefecture gate, in response to the call of the Young Farmers ( JA) and FDSEA 09.
“We work 70-80 hours a week and we don’t get minimum wage,” complained Sébastien Durand (FDSEA) during the peaceful demonstration, in the presence of the prefect of Ariege. “Ten months later, the bill is gone,” he added, referring to the measures announced by the government in response to the farmers’ mobilization launched at the beginning of the year.
Lots of action in Occitania
Farmers’ action is increasing in Occitania, where the protest movement began last winter.
On the night of Friday to Saturday in Gers, about sixty farmers dumped sheep’s wool, hay bales and straw in front of several government buildings in Auch at the call of the Rural Coordination.
