Brelnitch – Commander of the Legionnaires of the Realm – And Watcher!

Brelnicht is not only a Commander of the Legionnaires of the Realm – the most brutal and loyal rank of the Dlalth – but he is also secretly a Watcher. As a Watcher, he knows the Ancient Texts and waits with ferociously guarded hope for the coming of The One – a Dark Fey prophecy says will lead the Reviled back into the Light.

A snippet of entirely new content from The Reviled:

Brelnitch rose from his chair, circling around Gairynzvl like a vulture. “There’s time for that. But tonight… tonight, you repay what you owe.”

The officer’s hands rested briefly on his shoulders, heavy with intent. Gairynzvl gritted his teeth but held still, knowing resistance would lead to far worse consequences. If he were to survive in Uunglarda, he would have to navigate these dark waters carefully, using whatever leverage he could.

Brelnitch leaned closer with a satisfied smirk as if waiting for Gairynzvl to flinch or pull away, but he only tightened his jaw muscles and tensed in response to the officer’s touch. Brelnitch stared at him with piercing intensity, but the predatory hunger he had seen in his blood-red eyes earlier was not present. Instead, he seemed to be assessing him, testing him, waiting to see what he would do when faced with peril. Unwavering, Gairynzvl stood motionless and returned his gaze fleetingly before looking downward nonconfrontationally, but his eyes showed no fear.

Placing a gloved finger under his chin, Brelnitch raised his head, forcing him to return his penetrating stare, and Gairynzvl complied. Though his heart hammered in his chest so forcefully he was surprised the officer could not hear it, he neither blenched nor backed away, and his courage seemed to satisfy Brelnitch. A twisted grin turned one corner of his mouth before he dropped his hand and stepped back, and though Gairynzvl assumed he would tug open his pants, he moved with a measured pace to the desk on the opposite side of the room.

More curious than afraid, Gairynzvl watched as the office unlocked one of the desk drawers and drew from its secured depths a small leather-bound book. Its binding was feathered and worn, and the pages within were wrinkled as if it had been submerged in water at one point in its life but had survived. Opening it, Brelnitch leafed through several pages before finding what he was looking for and began to read, “Out of the Darkness, Light shall burst forth, Indomitable. And the Light will Prevail over the Darkness by shining into it, Unwavering; Guiding the Innocent from shadow and the irresolute from placidity.”

Upon hearing the words, Gairynzvl started violently and the masked expression on his face tightened with dread. It was one of the ancient prophecies written by the First Elders thousands of years ago. It was something very few Fey knew, and even fewer Dark Fey because here in the Uunglarda, the Ancient Texts were forbidden. Considered as traitorous as betraying the Praetor himself, reading or speaking the texts had only one outcome: an excruciatingly torturous death drawn out over as many days or weeks, or months as the well-trained and highly skilled executioners could produce.

The fully revised version of Dark Fey The Reviled is coming soon!
