The fate of Hashem Safi al-Din remains unclear, and neither Israel nor Hezbollah have commented on the case, CNN reports. It is Safi al-Din who is most often referred to as the potential leader of Hezbollah after the death of Hassan Nasrallah. But it is not known what his fate will be after the recent air attack on Beirut on Thursday night into Friday. Israel admitted that Safi al-Din was the target of the raid.
Israel is considering options to respond to the Iranian missile attack on Tuesday, which Iran carried out in response to Israeli military operations in Lebanon.
Eyewitnesses, quoted by Reuters, reported that an explosion was heard and smoke was seen above the southern suburb of Beirut early on Saturday morning. The Israeli army issued three warnings to residents, ordering them to evacuate immediately.
