The Olympic rings hanging from the Eiffel Tower since June were removed on the night of September 26-27. They will be replaced by lighter structures.

On the night of Thursday to Friday, the Olympic rings installed on the Eiffel Tower since June 7 were removed. The 30-ton ring, which dominates the Iron Lady, will be replaced with a lighter structure that can withstand winter weather conditions, but no firm date has been announced for its return. They must be installed until 2028.

The project defended by Anne Hidalgo has drawn strong reactions, especially from Gustave-Eiffel’s descendants. The latter spoke out in September, denouncing “substantial modifications both in the visual aspect but also in the symbolic aspect of the Eiffel Tower”. They regret the visual impact of this temporary installation on the symbolic monument.

Meanwhile, a smaller ring has been temporarily installed on the Jena Bridge, opposite the tower, to preserve the Olympic spirit.
