Samsung unveils Galaxy Quantum5 – a secure smartphone powered by quantum technology

First of all, let’s start with the fact that the Galaxy Quantum5 was developed in partnership with SK Telecom and is available exclusively on that network. So you won’t be able to get it outside of South Korea. Another partnership that made the phone possible is with ID Quantique (IDQ). This is a company that provides a quantum cryptographic chip.

The chip is a Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG). It uses quantum physics to generate truly random numbers to be used in the process of encrypting and decrypting sensitive data such as biometrics and passwords. Using truly random numbers from an independent chip reduces the possibility of outside influences and manipulation to which more traditional random number generation methods are susceptible.

Apart from the additional QRNG chip, the Galaxy Quantum5 is essentially the Galaxy A55. Some of the specifications that stand out include an aluminum frame and glass body on the front and back with IP67 protection, a 6.6-inch 120Hz Super AMOLED display, stereo speakers, a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5MP macro camera on the back. At the helm is an Exynos 1480 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. A 5000mAh battery keeps things going with 25W fast charging.
