I’m not afraid of anyone, I don’t respect anyone
Julia Szeremeta advanced to the final of the 57kg boxing category and secured at least a silver medal at the Paris Games. “I’m not afraid of anyone, I don’t respect anyone. I had even more fun than in the previous round,” she said.
In Wednesday’s semi-final, the Polish player defeated Filipina Nesta Petecio 4-1 (28:29, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28, 29:28).

— The president congratulated the volleyball players and Julia Szeremeta on their success! “We are looking forward to the volleyball and boxing finals. We keep our fingers crossed!”
In Saturday’s final, Szeremeta will face Taiwan’s Yu Ting Lin, who unanimously defeated Turkey’s Esra Yildiz in the semi-final.
TrustI’m not afraid of anyone, I don’t respect anyone. I go to the ring and do my thing.
– said the Pole, who played the semi-final on the main court at Roland Garros.
She said she had “even more fun than the previous phase.”
There were more fans, great weather, lights, so that made me even more emotional.
– she emphasized. She didn’t know how to answer what the recipe was to completely turn off the nervous system and not get stressed.
Instead of “Iga”, which could often be heard on the main court during a tennis tournament, on Wednesday night “Julka, Julka” was heard in the stands.
It was really good. Really cool. I can honestly say I can’t wait for the end.
– she added with a smile.
After the first round, which she lost on the judges’ cards, she was “a little surprised”.
I still had a lot of fun and that was my way
– she said. She did not want to talk about her rival in the final, Taiwan representative Yu Ting Lin, who, like Algeria’s Imane Khelif, was allowed to compete in Paris although he was excluded from the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi because, according to the International Boxing Federation (IBA), they failed a test to determine sex.
Controversy surrounding the IOCLast year, the IOC stripped the IBA of its status as boxing’s governing body on financial issues and took control of the Olympic competition, but is now at the centre of a dispute over the participation of these athletes.
The IOC recalled during the Games, in connection with the discussion on this subject, that “women can have testosterone levels equal to those of men, while still being women”.
One of the Polish coaches just said to Szeremeta: “Tell her she is taller.”
I didn’t check my ladders. From fight to fight I learned who I was boxing with. Now I know she’s taller and fights in the normal stance
– she said.
Szeremeta added:
I don’t feel stressed at all, I box in a relaxed way.
I am happy that there is such a reception from the fans. They like my boxing. I hope that Polish boxing will be reborn and grow even more. The village is very beautiful, we have a Polish area, we watch different disciplines, we support each other. There is a great atmosphere in the Polish national team.
– said the Olympic medalist.
She recalled Polish boxing’s last silver medal at the Olympics – won 44 years ago.
Something beautiful. There’s nothing to talk about silver. I’m going for gold. My hand will go up on August 10th. I was supposed to have gold from Garros, so let’s bring gold.
– she added.
This is Polish boxing’s first Olympic final since 1980, when Paweł Skrzecz won silver in Moscow in the light heavyweight category.
