POEM - Sundance

You are the library, not just a book;

an ‘in the flesh’ affirmation

which stirred me to stop ignoring the present

so that I might be with the past

  

Not a firework, but the whole finale

Such a tragic blessing, recognition

of the fact it took me literal years

to understand that what you most

remind me of is youth

  

Candles tend to haunt dark places

—feeding the emptiest of eyes—

but you refuse to take leave of the sun;

thus, why it is that you so often need reminding

of your own, near-blinding brightness
