Who can be on campus? An agouti, for one

I spent two days together with my friend and Tikuna tutor this past June. I'm going to post about those days in reverse order.

On the second day, we rented bikes and rode past the airport (the airport in Leticia is adorably small and you can walk from it into town if you want) to the Leticia campus of the National University of Colombia. Wakanomori and I had tried to do that when we were there together two years ago, but the former president of the country had been speaking there and no one was ...

katayoun Masoodi i can so relate to your friend, how if you a fence you can't enter and you better not ask. loved your story and felt a bit sad and so agouti sighting was so helpful, though that also made me a bit sad. it's a beautiful world and sometimes it feels so hopeless.

I pray with all my heart that my friend will come to feel like she *can* enter those space, that there will be enough support behind her that she can face down prejudices. But I know it's hard. I hope the fact that I value her friendship so much helps. I'm sorry you, too, have felt that way in life. Life can be so unjust. Some are given so much and others not much at all. But life is also so beautiful.

If hope is like a little flame that can be carried around, we can share it and it can grow. My friend was so proud to explain to me in more detail about the practices and techniques described in the university display. And then out in the forest, watching the agouti, we were both laughing and just loving how it played and enjoyed itself. I feel like we were building up hope in each other in that moment. ... This is, I think, a gift we can give each other person to person.

thanks for the lovely reply, i can see what you mean. mine is, that when you live in a dictatorship, you get used to fences and it's safer not to make any waves and not to be noticed. or maybe it's the older people that are like this, i see the younger people not afraid of anything and shouting at the top of their voices to be seen and heard. they are as beautiful as your agouti, in their element and knowing what they want. there is hope when still agoutis come out to play and young people walk proud!
looking forward to reading more of your posts and again thanks.

💛 Ah: I understand now. I think about circumstances like yours a lot because I do a lot of editing for people in China and Hong Kong, where, yes: the consequences of speaking up are so severe. But you're right about young people ... they are new and fresh and so bold. Here's to the future you imagine 💛

And thank you for the kind words about my posts.
