My very busy week…

Busy, busy, busy…

Good morning everyone.  It’s been a busy week here in Fielding Towers.

It began last Saturday when, as part of Independent Bookshop week I was invited — along with Karen Swan and Sarah Jane Butler, to be a guest bookseller at my fabulous local indie bookshop. (It’s part of one of the longest continuous runs of 14th century buildings in the country.)

I spent a great couple of hours learning how to work the till and the card machine and how John decides whether to order more copies of a book.

I sold some books – some of them my own! – and bought some!

I served coffee and wrapped a couple of mine in brown paper and string for the “buy a mystery book” stash.

I even have my books in the window! (Should have taken a photograph of that!)  I did take one of my books front and centre on the desk.

A birthday Display of sushi Image by soledad dagotto from Pixabay

It was my granddaughter’s twelfth birthday on Monday, so we had a tea party after school with sushi (her choice) and cake. This picture is from pixababy but is pretty much what we ate.

She did very well for presents!

Jigsaw puzzles

I completed this jigsaw puzzle I bought from a charity shop.

When I say completed, I discovered that there was a single piece missing – right there in the middle of the church tower which is sad but I enjoyed doing it.

Jigsaw puzzle of railway station in the 1950s.

I’m working on a garden one at the moment. Outline done and a few bits in the corner but it’s going to be very difficult. I am really excited that the new Miss Marple jigsaw, out this week, is on it’s way to me.

The new boiler

This illustration depicts a man carrying a gas water heater. My boiler was twenty years old and having been told – several times – by the repair man that there were no spare parts, I took the bold – and expensive – move to replace it in the summer while I was in control.

The last thing I wanted was a breakdown in the middle of winter when I’d have to wait a couple of weeks for a replacement.

So that was the other big thing this week.

Because it was a new, improved and more efficient boiler with bells and whistles that required some extra pipework it  took a whole day and involved drilling a hole in the wall of my apartment.  But it’s done.

My radiators have been flushed clean and I was frankly astonished at how quickly they heated up and how hot they got. Clearly a much needed update.

And finally

The other big thing I did this week was to republish three of my backlist books that have been out of print in English for a while. They are all — for a limited time — at the launch price of 99p/99c and the equivalent elsewhere in the world. And they are all available free for those who subscribe to Kindle Unlimited. You can download them from Amazon whereever you are in the world.

Next week? I really need to get some words written on the new book!
