Regarding Self Preservation
I recently finished a book I won't name out of respect. The first half of it was fun and relatable; it felt like a 90's sitcom full of little anecdotes, but the second half was something of call to "reach across the aisle" and "get along" with leftists.
There were essentially two things at the heart of this call: 1.) this author, bless his heart, has leftists in his family, and 2.) though not in these exact words, he admitted that leftists can be dangerous when they don't get what they want.
I understand this perspective and can even empathize with it. Who doesn't want peace with close family members? Also, prior to the last four years, this argument would even have made sense to me. I would have gladly extended my hand before COVID, and the treatment of the J6th prisoners, and the shot/mask mandates, and the Trump ruling, and.... #SIGH#...I could go on but won't.
You get the idea.
These days, I'm fully convinced that if I extended my hand to the left, they'd not only take my hand, but they'd also chop my arm off right along with it! No, leftists are not interested in discussing tax brackets or programs for the needy. They don't want to hear anyone's ideas about how to run healthcare or the country.
They have their OWN ideas, and by God they are going to shove them down your throat. They don't care if they rupture your esophagus in the process; in fact, if they do, the better! Most of them believe overpopulation is causing climate change, so breaking a few more eggs on the way to utopia is no skin off their nose, to say nothing of yours.
They don't care about creating a pile of ashes, so long as they can rule over said pile. The author is right: They are dangerous. They mean business. They are out for blood. They want totalitarian control, and I think they'll stop at nothing to get it.
Reach across the aisle?
No thank you, for that would be tantamount to suicide, and suicide is a sin.
