Entwined

The barbarian is entwined 

with the gate 

and slouches not 

towards Jerusalem 

but his own oblivion,

Towards a desert 

full of nomads 

who forgets his one 

short season 

of self destruction 

amid millennia of sands 

and olive trees 

and watermelon.
