With the βHumanityβs Dawnβ trilogy being my first venture into science fiction authorship I have built a universe, supported with a plausible timeline, that leads humanity from our present day up to the start of book 1 in the year 4545.
Although this was something that I really enjoyed doing, particularly putting together the reader magnet which explores the science, I am keen to know whether this is something that adds to the experience for you the reader?
As a positive. I would say that building the timeline has helped me identify at least another 3 points where I could explore back stories and events leading up to the current series. Is this something that you, the reader, consider an interesting and attractive thing when choosing a series to read?
Fellow Sci-Fi/Fantasy writers, please also feel free to chip in here on your experiences of building your universes, particularly any pitfalls you have come across π
