Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been a big talking point in the news recently, particularly around the areas of safety and its ethical application, which was something that I wanted to explore in my โ€˜Humanityโ€™s Dawnโ€™ universe.

As many science fiction writers agree, AI is a rather difficult subject. If we could truly create something that was better than us in every way, then any story of humanity would inevitably be very short lived.

In my universe, humanity decide to halt their exploration into the development of AI, around 3550 in my timeline, when humanity is plunged into the โ€˜Identity Warsโ€™, finally agreeing, via the technologist faction, that the enhancement of humanity is the preferred medium. They find that in their history, they have nearly automated themselves out of the work place, finally discovering that it is work itself that helps humans find purpose in their day to day existence.

What are your thoughts? Does AI have a future role to play in the story of humanity, or is it something that we will decide to put down or limit, on ethical grounds?
