Yes, like many players, I’ve returned to the irradiated online wilderness of Fallout 76. I started having an itch for MMOs on and off a few months before the Fallout show. But I resisted. But after watching all of Amazon’s excellent live-action series based on the post-apocalyptic RPG series, I couldn’t help but reinstall Bethesda’s online version of his Fallout. As is often the case, I spent a fair amount of time in Fallout 76 trying to figure out how to transport all the random junk I need to build structures and craft items in the game. .

My tedious quest to get a backpack

While randomly browsing the Fallout 76 subreddit, I discovered that backpacks were added to the game in a past update. And you can carry more stuff. I was intrigued! I also felt like a dummy. Immediately, a quick Google search turned up a Reddit post and several guides explaining how to get the backpack. It seemed simple enough. So I fired up Fallout 76 and headed to Morgantown Airport.

According to Reddit, the blueprints for creating useful packs can be found on the second floor of the airport in an area you visit early on in Fallout 76. I had visited here many years ago, but have never been back since creating the original character. During the 2019 Wild’s Appalachia update, Bethesda added a backpack blueprint to this early game area. No wonder, since many new players stumble upon this.

However, for players who have already been traveling through the game for years, it can be easily missed as there is no need to return to the airport. So I went back. While fighting the enemies inside, I found a treasure chest on the upper floor and discovered…the blueprints were missing.

Why are backpacks not available at Morgantown Airport?

At that moment, I had the same thought I had many times with Fallout 76. “Hmm, did I do something wrong or is the game just broken?”

So I fired up Fallout 76 again, joined the new world, and raced through the airport… only to find that my backpack wasn’t on my chest. Also. I checked the web to see if anyone else was experiencing this bug, and many others were complaining that, yes, their backpacks weren’t at the airport.

It turns out that Bethesda had actually moved the spawn location of the blueprints to a different area several months ago, which new players will encounter even earlier in Fallout 76’s start time. It’s a place to be.

I felt stupider than ever. But for now, let me help you avoid this stupid series of events by getting you a very useful backpack.

How to unlock and craft backpacks in Fallout 76

To get the backpack now (April 2024), you’ll need to head to the Overseer’s Camp, located south of Fallout 76 near Wayward Bar. It’s located near the river just north of Greene County Lodge, in a chest marked Overseer’s Stash.

Once you’ve looted the plan and then checked your inventory, you should be able to activate or “learn” the recipe. At that point, assuming you have the materials, you will be able to craft a backpack on the armor bench. Requires 1 cloth, 1 leather, and 1 steel. As you level up, you can create better versions of packs that can hold even more weight.

If you’re a new player who started playing in the last few weeks, you may have already picked up the Backpack Blueprint after visiting the Overseer’s Camp.

If you’re having trouble creating a pack, check the Notes section of your inventory and make sure you’ve activated the Backpack plan. Please note that you cannot use a backpack while wearing power armor in Fallout 76.

Well, now you have a small backpack. If you want a larger backpack that can hold even more stuff, you’ll need to complete the Order of the Tadpole questline. This is not very difficult, but it does take time.
