About Nubia

For those not in the know, Wonder Woman had a character for a time, a black Amazon, named Nubia…I think they changed it to N’ubia later.

She’s a fantastic looking character, and the couple stories I have seen her in, she seemed very interesting.

But I did initially think it was odd that a white writer would create a black Amazon and name her Nubia. This was some time back, and I immediately learned that a lot of POC embraced the character whole-heartedly and saw her name more as an affirmation than a bit of white writer cluelessness.

A poster here on Tumblr just wrote a nice piece in defense of the character, and I’m curious.

Who here is familiar with the character, and her stories, and what did you think of her?

Would you like to see her return?  Do you find the name positive or problematic?
