Oxygen

Can’tsee it,

ButI know when it’s there,

Knowwhen it’s being denied to my lungs.

Can’ttaste it,

Thoughsome may insist that they

Knowit exists at the tip of their tongue.

Can’tfeel it

Exceptfor the breeze as it

Brushesmy cheek with a warmth or a chill.

Can’tkeep it.

Mustgive it back once its sustenance ends

Andits mission fulfills.

Blessedgiver…

     Warden of life…

          Imperceptible stream.

ThoughI’ve never seen you,

     I know you are there

          Upholding my dream.
