SSM: Lost in Time
Here’s this weeks prompt:
Lost in Time: You discover a hidden portal that allows you to travel to any time in history. Where do you go, and what adventures await you?
Who knew a dusty old book in the corner of the library could be my ticket to the most extraordinary adventure of my life? Hi, I’m Emma, just your average bookworm with a knack for finding trouble. Little did I know, flipping through those ancient pages would open a portal to a time when the giants of Earth roamed freely. Before I could even process what was happening, there I was, standing in the middle of a world lost in time, the Jurassic period.

One moment I was in the library, and the next, I stood in a world so alien yet strangely familiar. The air was thick with the scents of lush greenery, and the sounds were like nothing I’d ever heard – distant roars and the rustling of gigantic plants. The sky was a canvas of vibrant blues and greens, painted with clouds that seemed close enough to touch. My heart raced with a mix of fear and exhilaration. This was no longer the world I knew; I had somehow landed in the Jurassic period.
My first encounter was nothing short of magical. A massive Brachiosaurus, munching on the tops of trees, glanced down at me with what seemed like mild curiosity. Its sheer size was overwhelming, yet there was a gentle grace to its movements. Not far from this gentle giant, however, lurked danger. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the unmistakable outline of a T-Rex in the distance, its powerful jaws a stark reminder of the perilous world I had stumbled into. I quickly ducked behind a large fern, my breaths shallow as I watched the king of dinosaurs roam its kingdom.

Survival in this ancient world was a challenge I hadn’t anticipated. Food was everywhere, yet not everything was safe to eat. I learned quickly, relying on my instincts to distinguish between edible fruits and potentially poisonous ones. Shelter was another concern; I found solace in a small cave, surprisingly comfortable and secure.
Each day brought new discoveries. I encountered creatures that defied imagination, like the fleet-footed Gallimimus and the towering Diplodocus. The diversity of plant life was staggering too, with ferns larger than cars and flowers with vibrant, almost neon colors. I sketched them in a makeshift diary, a record of my incredible journey through time.

After what felt like an eternity but was only a few days, I stumbled upon the portal again. It was hidden among ferns, its presence almost mocking my initial unawareness. Standing before it, I felt a wave of emotions – relief, sadness, and a sense of accomplishment. With one last look at the Jurassic world, I stepped through the portal, the familiar walls of the library enveloping me once more. It was as if no time had passed at all in my world.
As I emerged from the library, the sun seemed brighter, the world more vibrant. The adventure in the Jurassic period, though brief, had changed me. It taught me about the vastness of time, the fragility of existence, and the enduring power of curiosity. I walked away with a heart full of memories from a time when giants walked the Earth, knowing that some part of me would always remain lost in time.
