How to get feedback?

How does an author get readers to share their honest thoughts? I want to hear them, good and bad. I would LOVE to engage in discussions about my books but things always seem so quiet and reviews are focused on telling other readers what the book is like or targetted at telling me what a terrible person I am...??? But, where can an author go to hear from readers?
