After all, it has become a law. The AI Act is far from perfect. Over the years of negotiations, details have slipped into some of the paragraphs that could enable more surveillance instead of protecting civil rights.
But in the meantime it seemed possible that the AI Act would be completely overturned. And that’s why it’s good news that the EU Parliament finally approved it on Wednesday.
The law regulates which applications of artificial intelligence are permitted in Europe and which are not. This is the right approach because you don’t have to be a doomsday prophet to fear that companies could come up with AI applications that could become dangerous.
